For this week's Metamorphosis Monday, my friend Donna has graciously allowed me to share pictures of her master bathroom remodel. My decorator friend Connie provided the inspiration based on a photo that Donna had clipped from a magazine. I supplied the perspiration; well, not really, but I hired all of the subcontractors and supervised the job.
I don't have a good before picture (I think Connie has those), but I do have this picture from the "destruction" phase. Notice the mustard gold walls. Try to imagine white cabinets, white tile, white cultured marble whirlpool tub. I think you get the picture.
Custom built cabinets with granite countertops replaced Donna's existing cabinets. For comfort, she wanted the cabinet height raised to 36". The cabinets were undercoated with a brick red color and then painted in a soft grey-green, which was lightly sanded in places to allow some of the red to show through. We used the same grey-green, which coordinated with her bedroom color, on the textured walls.
We designed the cabinets with a bank of drawers between the two sinks. Each drawer has custom dividers, so that Donna can organize her "stuff." The open shelves above give her a place to display family photos and collectibles. The back of this display area is covered in bead board that is painted in the same brick red that undercoats the cabinets.
Below each sink, the plumber raised the trap and water lines to accommodate a drawer for additional storage. The arched toe-kick at the sink cabinets give these a furniture look.
One of Donna's main requirements was "a really good shower." Her new tile shower has a framless glass door and is fitted with an overhead "rainhead" shower, a handheld, and three body sprays. The shower walls are covered in the same tile as the floor, and the wall opposite the shower door has a special tile pattern using a smaller version of the same tile laid on the diagonal and outlined in 1" x 1" mosaic tiles. These same mosaic tiles are used on the walls at the tub alcove and also as accent tiles in the floor.
A cast iron skirted tub from Sunrise Specialty replaced her old whirlpool tub. The channel faucet is from Brizo.
The crystal cabinet hardware was purchased from Restoration Hardware. If you click on this picture to enlarge it, you can see some of the red primer paint showing through the green. We completed Donna's retro look with crystal doorknobs from Baldwin Brass and framed mirrors from Kirkland's that were about $50 each.

That tub & shower are to die for! Dreamy! Wowo I think you guys did a great job. My "Honey" wants to have a larger shower put in at our house. THERE IS NOT ROOM! I don't dare show him these phots.
Kathy that tub is decadent! And I love the vanity with it's distressed, brick-red undertone. Your contractors did a great job!
Thanks for stopping by my old condo's kitchen - it really was rewarding to do so much of the work ourselves. In our current kitchen we did even more work (involved a huge tear-out) and almost every time I'm in the kitchen I find myself thinking proudly of what we've accomplished.
