Who Thinks Up These Contests?

During halftime of a college basketball game last weekend, I caught snippets of a promo that CBS was running for an actual contest they are conducting. Not quite believing what I was hearing, I went to their website, and sure enough, it's true. CBS is giving away a free colonoscopy.

And there's more. The winner gets a trip to New York City for three nights to have the procedure done, and they're going to put you up in a suite at the "luxurious" Loews Regency Hotel. In fact, you get to do your colonoscopy prep work at the hotel.

Now I don't know about you, but I think I'd rather be doing my prep work in the comfort of my own home. They can fly me to New York some other time when I can actually enjoy my three days without having to spend one day in the bathroom and the next day undergoing a medical procedure that requires a bit of time to recover from anesthesia.

Knowing CBS, they'd probably want to video the whole thing so they could show it on "The Early Show" or "The CBS Evening News."

Now I know colon cancer is nothing to joke about, and it's important to be screened, so if you'd like to know more about this contest, or if you think you might just want to enter, go here.

I agree with you, enough is enough. I have a colonoscopy every 3 yrs and beleive me you want to be in your own home while preparing for and recouping from this thing. I want to go to New York to sight see, not be seen and sighted by a TV camera. Some folks will do anything for a free trip.

If I go to NYC, I want to eat my way across Manhattan, Cloisters to Battery Park, East River to Hudson.

Some trip! You can't eat, you have to do the colonoscopy prep (and I agree, far better to do that in your own home), then you have to go on national TV to talk about it.

Of course, there will be no shortage of takers...
