Kiss Me, I'm Irish!

Aren't we all a little bit Irish today? So in honor of the day we all wear green so we won't get pinched, I thought I'd post a few pictures from our trip to Ireland a few years ago.

I am part Irish and really want to visit there...how fun that you did! My hubby has been there on business.

Yes, hubby and I are both grads of UA! I grew up just south of Pine Bluff and he is from Monticello. Camden...do you know Rena Freeman, by chance? My Hubby worked for a summer in Camden when he was in college.

We are way up north where nobody drinks sweet tea, says yes maam...or come on over and sit a spell...always in a hurry.

Good morning, Kathy! Happy St. Patrick's Day to you!

The pictures of Ireland are beautiful. I just thought I'd share a sweet story with you...I am 100% Polish-American, but attended an Irish-Catholic grade school in St. Louis. Now, most Catholic grade schools do not have a particular ethnic affiliation, but Holy Infant sure did.

Our teachers were mostly lay, but a few were nuns directly from Ireland. They were the Sisters of Mercy from Meath, Ireland. Sister Rosario Delaney arrived in St. Louis, MO in August of 1964 to become one of the school's teachers. In 1979, while I was still in grade school, she became our principal and other nuns from Ireland continued to arrive. (Sr. Rosario was kind of scary-mean...very strict...no fooling around in class!)

I swear to this day that the reason I am so bad at math is b/c I didn't understand Sister's heavy Irish brogue! In addition to our lessons, girls were allowed to join the Irish Dancing troupe and we were taught traditional Irish dance by the nuns! What a hoot to see them kick up their heels in full habit!!!

I have such great memories of my years at Holy Infant. Did you know that 45+ years later the school still operates their annual St. Patrick's Day festival complete with the boys serenading you with Irish tunes and the girls dancing Irish jigs while you eat corned beef and cabbage! BTW, we never had to go to school on St. Patrick's Day...unofficial school holiday!

Blessings to you from Kansas!
