Setting Priorities

This afternoon at 2 o’clock I am hosting a bridal tea for my friend Glenda’s daughter. I will be posting pictures on Tablescape Thursday.

Yesterday morning Connie came over to work on flowers and other things, and I gave LBeau his instructions for things I wanted him to take care of. It included stuff like getting rid of the stack of books on the floor of the bedroom where the gifts would be displayed, doing something about the piles of magazines in the living room, and moving the three or four books that he is currently reading so that someone can set a drink or plate on the end table beside his chair in the den. Are you seeing a pattern here?

Woman_Cleaning_Her_House_Royalty_Free_Clipart_Picture_090529-013874-489053So where does he start? Why he insists that his first priority is to take everything out of his closet so that I can vacuum it out. I thought he had learned years ago that closets are where you stash all of that stuff you want to hide when it’s time for company.

Back when we were newly married and expecting our first overnight house guests, LBeau decided that it was a good time to clean out all of the closets. That was when we had our first lesson about priorities. I guess he’s forgotten that lesson over the past 38 years.

So now if any of the tea guests should mistake the door to his closet for the door to the powder room, they’ll find that it’s spic and span.

Well, I have to part man-company with LBeau on the closet cleanout thing. The closet is, in fact, where you stash stuff when company's coming. I am loving this house as long as I can have it---I have a whole extra BEDROOM that exists expressly for this purpose.

As to the books, magazines, newspapers, and other reading material though---isn't that the way EVERYBODY lives? How is he going to find his place when you disturb his books? Those prissy women can just put their plates on TOP of the books, and the stack of magazines (if high enough and properly shored up/braced) can act as an extra end table!

That man is nuts!! Priorities lie elsewhere at this time... oh well, at least your closet will be neat, organized, and still well stashed. LOL Cannot wait to see what you post on Thurs. I have borrowed your idea of gift display for the shower I will give for my niece/godchild in the spring. So I need all the details for how you do this... Hope you have a great time today! hugs, Sue

OMG you have one too! When my company was coming I needed so many things done by him and I told him his priorities were all wrong. He cleaned the garage floor so you could actually eat off of it. Like that was important! Wash a window please...............

Nothing Larry does surprises me. However, I do want to know if Glenda is going to have to wear her cataract glasses for the shower?

It seems a lot of our hubby's made today's posts! This is the fourth one including mine. My hubby will often ask what he can do to help. I'll usually tell him just look around and see what needs done 'cause I'm too busy to decide where he'll do the least damage. It never fails to amaze me what his priorities are when it comes to cleaning up for company! At least he tries.

Well, I understand your frustration but I must add that I love a man who will clean out a closet! Hope the tea was lovely...Joyce

Yes - once we became empty nesters - our 3rd bedroom became the "stash room" - unfortunately, I can hardly walk through -- this weekend == I'm going to attempt to take everything out and put some order to the room - sigh!
