I Am So Jealous

Tomorrow I am taking a friend to have cataract surgery.  Is it wrong to be jealous of someone who is about to have surgery?

She will have one eye done tomorrow and the second eye done next week.  The surgeon will implant a lens that will allow her to see without glasses or contacts.  LBeau had the same surgery done a few years ago.  Although he wears glasses most of the time because he needs them for reading and as an engineer he does lots of close work, he can still get up in the night to go to the bathroom and see where he's aiming.

scan I have worn glasses since I was in first grade and contacts since 1959.  I started with the old hard plastic lenses, and I still wear the rigid gas perm lenses.  I would love just once to be able to get up in the middle of the night, look at the clock, and be able to read it.

I suppose I could have lasik, and believe me, I've considered it.  But there is the cost involved.  Insurance pays for cataract surgery.

And although I am grateful that I can wear contact lenses instead of glasses, except for reading of course, I would love to be able to just do away with all of that.

So again I ask, is it wrong to be jealous of someone who is about to have surgery?

I was not a candidate for lasik because I had cataracts. I had the surgery as your friend will and as Larry did. It is great to be able to see the TV, etc. without glasses or contacts.

It has been hard to get used to being far-sighted instead of near-sighted.

I want to have that done one of these days. I can't afford it right now but I hate glasses and contacts are hard when you need one for far away and one for close up. I am almost to that stage. You looked cute in your glasses ;)

I'll be sticking with my gas perms for as long as I possibly can. My vision is not correctable by Lasik- way too high a scrip! Guess I'll fumble for the glasses in the middle of the night until I croak! If I can still reach for them... LOL
But now I need readers to see the fine print... Does it never end?!

Kbeau, I used to wear gas perms and then had lasik when I was 35. After 2 years had to have it redone in my left eye and have been back in contacts now for 3 or 4 years. Can't go back to gas perms because of the surgery. I did have some unexpected complications with the lasik. At this point, I think I might have been better off just to stick with the contacts!

Does that make you a little less jealous? :)

Why no, I don't think so! I'm jealous as all git out of my boys!!!! All 3 have had eye surgery this year and ( with the exception of Adam, who has miles to go)...they have such better vision. I hve worn glasses since I was in the 6 th grade, and could never get very good vision with contacts...so I've just stayed with glasses!

Really, I am very happy for my boys...but I want to have it done, too!

I would be jealous too, Kathy. My mom had it done in her 80's and right after surgery, her vision went back to 20/20. Now that is a good reason to be jealous!...Christine

In this case I would definately say NO.

I know how you feel. The lasik thing is so tempting but so expensive. So, if I wear my glasses I take them off to read and if I wear my contacts I put reading glasses on to read. Maybe you're not jealous so much as envious. I am too.

If it's wrong, I'll be wrong right along with you. I'd LOVE to be able to see without my glasses - - - I started wearing them in 2nd grade.

I don't think it's wrong at all! LOL BTW...could you have been more stinkin' cute in your 1st grade photo...absolutely adorable, and I think it's the glasses that make the pic! But, I don't blame you for wanting to have the lasik to correct your vision!!!

AND yes, definitely back up or save your digital scrapbooking kits to CDs. This was actually a recommendation from one of my favorite sites as a means to freeing up memory space on your computer as well as allowing for handy organization...you can organize by manufacturer, color, season, etc.

Unfortunately, I learned my lesson the hard way, although several folks have told me that nothing is ever truly gone. I'm sure if the feds wanted it they would find a way to retrieve it...LOL!!!

Have a great weekend,
Valerie

I've worn reading glasses for the past few years and finally got sick of the off and on game. I got some progressive lens glasses and I HATE them. I cannot for the life of me find the "sweet spot" that will make me read like a normal (pre-50) person! So I have $300 glasses but still use my stinkin' reading glasses most of the time!

I am jealous that you can wear contacts....lol! I've tried several times in the past, but I can only tolerate them in one eye (yes, I know I am strange).
We've (hubby wears contacts) thought a lot about getting Lasix, but was unsure it would would be the best option in the long run.

Oh well, even though I hate not being able to see 5 feet in front of me without my glasses, I'm happy that I can still see WITH my glasses.
