Easter Dinner - Tablescape Thursday

Welcome once again to Tablescape Thursday. Hosted by Susan at Between Naps on the Porch, this weekly event gives us a chance to show off what we can do by gathering stuff that we've collected over the years and artfully arranging it for a special dining occasion.

I'll have to admit that for past Tablescape Thursdays I've relied on photos of tablescapes that I already had on hand. So this week marks a first for me. I actually created a table just for Tablescape Thursday when I set my dining room table for Easter dinner. And it's all for show. We will be traveling to Memphis to spend Easter with LBeau's mother and oldest sister.

I don't have a lot of pastels, so I had to work with what was on hand. I started with the Mikasa Italian Countryside dinner plates that LBeau picked out a few years ago when we were looking for a new set of everyday dishes. Then I added a salad plate in Kings Crown with cranberry flashing. I found these on eBay a few years ago and bought them because I thought they would look good mixed with my Old Britain Castles pink dishes.

The cranberry flashed goblets are also in the Kings Crown pattern. Kings Crown was produced by several different glass companies, including Tiffin and Indiana Glass.

The coffee cups are another eBay purchase. My mother has a set of dessert plates in this pattern, and after she gave me two to hang in a grouping of plates over my kitchen window, I started looking for more things in the same pattern. They are called Devon-Ware and were made by Ridgways in England.

The placemats are the only things I bought just for this table, but I think I will get a lot of use out of this green color. I have been reading about all of the great bargains some of you find at Ross, so I decided to head over there last week to see what I could discover. Would you believe that this was my first ever trip inside Ross, and it's less than five miles from my house!! In fact, I probably pass it every day.

These placemats came in a set of four for $3.99, a real bargain, so I bought two sets. I used them over a white tablecloth, because I didn't think they would show up well sitting directly on my dark cherry table. And, of course, I don't set many tables without my favorite Towle hotel stainless.

The Three French Hens are back and cooperated very nicely by laying these colorful eggs just in time for Easter.

Some of you may recognize these hurricanes from my Halloween tablescape that I did a few weeks ago. This time they are filled with small colorful eggs sitting on a bed of pink grass. You should have seen me trying to get the eggs out of their package and into the hurricane. They are made of styrofoam and had lots of static. No sooner would I get them into the hurricane than they would start flying back out and into their plastic container. It looked like one of those popping push toys that kids used to play with.

So LBeau came home last night and wanted to know why the dining room table was all set for dinner. I told him that it was just because I wanted to. I also mentioned that it had been that way since Monday, so he wasn't very observant if he was just now noticing. He laughed.

What a gorgeous tablescape, and I love all of the beautiful dishes. It is really nice that the eggs were layed just in time for the holiday, but your story of the styrofoam eggs just cracked me up. They are beautiful in the large hurricans. Thanks also for stopping by my Tablescape and all your gracious comments. May you and your family have a blessed Easter. Hugs, Marty

Kathy, those hurricanes are absolutely gorgeous, and I love them filled with the eggs (it was totally worth the struggle of dealing with the styrofoam-so funny!) When I saw that coffee cup, I kept feeling that it looked familiar. I have a china pattern called "Apple Blossom" that is also made by Ridgeways, England. Although the colors are Fall-like on my china, the flower design is very similar. So interesting to see this other pattern. Love your story about your husband and the tablescape. Sounds just like my house! Great job on your tablescape. laurie

Great tablescape. I laughed out loud thinking of you trying to put the eggs into the hurricanes. Too funny! And your comment about your husband. All I can say is "MEN". That explains it all.

Hi Kathy, Thank you for visiting my blog! Yes, the dishes are antique, they're my Great Grandmother's wedding china. they're by far the fanciest dishes I own and I only pull them out for Special occasions. Happy Easter! :O)

* Oh this is soooo lovely w/ all those beauuuutiful happy, spring/Eastery colors!!! You created such a CHARMING TABLE!!! I also just loved the story about the styrofoam (it's happened to me when buying on E-Bay & after laughing for a minute or two, it DOES get a little "frustrating", huh?)~~~ Sooo glad you shared this pretty, pretty setting! Warmly, Linda *
