Today marks the second anniversary of the birth of our first grandchild. In this day of modern communication, his imminent arrival was announced in a text message from our son Brent to tell us that Katie’s water had broken and they were headed to the hospital.
LBeau and I were in Atlanta for a concrete convention, which meant that it would take us an extra two hours to get to Jackson, Mississippi. We packed quickly and hit the road, passing through Birmingham without batting an eye.
Brent Walker Beaumont, Jr., arrived on April 25, 2007, and changed our lives. We became grandparents—KBeau and LBeau. What fun it’s been. So in honor of Walker’s second birthday, I’m posting some of my favorite pictures from the last two years.
There’s nothing sweeter than a sleeping baby.
When Brent and Katie brought Walker to Birmingham for the first time, my friend Janice got to practice being a grandmother.
When Brent, Katie and Walker moved to Annapolis, I went along to help out. We stopped in North Carolina so that Walker could meet his great grandfather, Daddy Don.
I found Walker’s Halloween suit at a children’s consignment sale at our church.
They spent Christmas 2007 with Katie’s family in Washington. Here are Katie and her sisters with Walker and cousin Chloe. Walker was the first boy in that family and will continue to be so. Chloe now has a sister Charlotte, and Walker’s sister Lauren will arrive next month.
Walker’s grandmother Ya-Ya likes to call him Walkie Talkie. The name fits, since he was talking by his first birthday. Early on, we taught him how to Call the Hogs. Woooooo Pig Sooie!!
All decked out for the 4th of July.
Here is one of our most recent pictures, which I use as the wallpaper on my laptop. What a joy to have his sweet face smiling at me from my computer.
Happy Birthday, Walker. See you soon.

Kathy, he is adorable. There is nothing any sweeter than a baby and that it is your Grandbaby makes it even more special. I think being a Granny is God's greatest gift to me. I have 4, 2 boys and 2 girls and they are all so very special.
Happy Birthday to Walkie-Talkie....
There's just nothing like it! You just don't know till you've had a grandchild. We are 1st time grandparents also. We have a 7month old, 22 lb baby boy!!

Oh how precious! Isn't being a grand...just...well...GRAND! What a sweetie. We're expecting grandgirl #4 in June! Can't wait -- it would be wonderful if she was born on my birthday (except then she would be a little late!) Or she could hit her sister's day and be a bit early -- but she'll probably have a day ALL to herself!
Happy Birthday to Walker! And Happy Grandparent's Anniversary to you and LBeau! He (being Walker, you too LBeau) is such a cutie! So glad you shared all the pictures! Love, JB
Oh how cute he is! Love the one of him calling the hogs! Happy Birthday Walker. laurie
He's a little doll! Are your son and daughter in law still in Annapolis? Are we talking Maryland? We lived there for 8 years before moving to England. It's a great town and we miss the Bay.
When I read your post, I thought about how close they are in ages. Who knows? Perhaps they will have an opportunity to meet one another one of these days. I loved your post here and on Talledega. How much fdun was that!
Hi Kathy...your grandson is adorable..they are wonderful at this age...Miss SOphie will be 2 on May 30th...and her favorite words are "Cool" and the ever popular "Wow"....she was slow going as a talker but it amazes me how much she understands...Isn't being a grandmother the best...
Ohhhhhhhh...This post is wonderful!!! Brent was about this age when I started babysitting for your boys. Hmmmm...I think I am feeling really old now!
