Without A Stitch

In honor of LBeau's birthday today, I think it's time I told the story of our first date.

In early March of 1970 I got home from my teaching job in Richardson, Texas, a suburb of Dallas, to find a phone message that one of my roommates had taken. One of my friends had a friend that she wanted me to go on a blind date with. I agreed, and the date was set for that weekend.

When Larry arrived to pick me up, I learned that we would be double dating with his roommate and the roommate's girlfriend because Larry's car was in the shop. Okay with me. We were just going to a movie. What I didn't know was that it wasn't just any movie, but a Swedish flick complete with sub-titles appropriately called "Without a Stitch." X-rated, of course.

I found out later that Larry's sister Mary Katherine, who had also helped set up this blind date, read him the riot act when she found out where he had taken me. She as much as told him that I would probably never go out with him again. I guess something must have appealed to me, however, because we went out the next weekend when he hosted a birthday party for Mary Katherine, and we've been together ever since.

It's hard to believe that first date was more than 39 years ago. So Happy Birthday, LBeau, and here's to 39 more years.

And here we are last week in Paris.

Hi Kathy! So glad that you are back! I've missed your posts!

What an adorable couple you made back in March 1970! You're both still pretty cute today! What a delightful story...thanks for sharing!

Chris and I were also set up on a blind date...we've only been married 15 years, (but longer than most of our friends...eeeek!), but you and I both seem to be proof positive that blind dates do work!

I can't believe that he would take you to see a "risque" movie on your fist date, but then again, I can't believe that Chris asked me out for a 2nd date either...I got my own dates mixed up and didn't realize I was meeting him the night I threw my hair in a ponytail and put on a Detroit Pistons sweatshirt!!!

Can't wait to read thru your Paris postings,
Valerie
