Accomac Revisited

daylilies 016 When I wrote about my trip to visit my cousin in Accomac, Virginia, little did I know that I would be going back a month later. But after leaving Annapolis on June 14 to help Brent, Katie and family move to Savannah, that's exactly where we headed.

When we were in Accomac in May, the garden featured lots of iris in bloom. You can see some of them HERE. This time the daylilies were putting on a show. Here are a few.

These are just a few of the varieties of daylilies that my cousin Mary has planted in raised beds all over the Accomac Hotel property. My only disappointment was that the Mary Belle Belin, named for our grandmother, was not yet blooming. But I did snap a few pictures of some beautiful hydrangeas.

And for a bit of garden whimsy, here's a clever use for a retired urinal.

Oh, Kathy! These are incredibly beuatiful flowers. There is one lily with a ruffled edge in pink that just takes my breath away. And the hydrangeas! Oh, gorgeous! I would be so interested to see the one named for your grandmother. What an honor to have a flower named for you. She must have been a very special lady.

Happy Outdoor Wednesday!

XO,

Sheila :-)

Beautiful flowers! I love the lacy lily. I can't say I'm a fan of the urinal, even if it is holding pretty flowers!

I love the pink daylilies, you don't see them very often.

UP sooo close and personal -- the shot of your iris and flowers were to die for!

I especially love the second one... the texture .. unreal.

LOL and like others have said -- who'd have "thunk" a urinal would or could be a pretty spot??

The day lilies and hydrangeas are so pretty. And that urinal is funny. I betcha it will make a big statement if that were in our garden, hubby being a urologist, lol!...Christine

I've seen bathtubs and even a kitchen sink as a garden ornament, but a urinal has got to be the first. Hilarious! Happy OW!

Hi Kathy!
You asked about the lemon tree and how old it was. We started it from a seed 17 years ago, and it is now a beautiful shade tree. Thanks so much for enjoying the story. Over the years it has brought me such joy to sit and look at that tree and know that it was truly blessed by God. Especially seeing as how the nursery told us it would never bear fruit. Little do they know about blessings from above when a childs heart is involved. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you will come again. Country Hugs, Sherry

Beautiful pictures...the lilies are so pretty up here this year...my mom and I were saying they must love wet weather because we've had buckets of rain and the lilies are the healthiest we've seen in a while.

I do love some garden whimsy! Very clever idea! I don't have daylilies or hydrangeas at the moment. But those are simply gorgeous, and they are on the top of my list come decent digging weather!

Lovely show of lilies. I have never seen such colors. And the little green grass hopper is enjoying them too.

I love 'off the wall' garden whimsy. (pun intended ;-)

Great post.

What beautiful flowers she has! So lush and colorful. My favorite are the hydrangeas, they won't really grow here - way to hot and dry, but I adore them. Thanks for sharing these. Happy OW. Kathy

Kathy,

I loved seeing all the different colored daylilies you have. I have the standard yellow and orange and just planted some pink ones. What inspiration you gave me to add more color!!

I also love your hydrangea. It is a little extra work to get the blue color, but well worth it!!

The urinal was a LOL moment!!!

Happy OW!! :-)
