I have a love/hate relationship with this time of year.
On the plus side, the weather has warmed up, the skies are a gorgeous blue, the trees are turning green, and things are blooming everywhere. Last week, we took Walker and Lauren to the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, and I could have spent all day taking pictures of all the trees and flowers in bloom.
I think spring has got to be the prettiest time of the year, and I always feel a sudden surge of energy—that is until the dreaded yellow haze. Here in Birmingham it happened almost overnight. One day the skies were crystal clear, and the next day the city was enveloped in a ginormous yellow cloud.
I know I probably say the same thing every year, but I think this has absolutely got to be the worst year ever for pollen. Maybe it's because the cold weather lasted longer, so suddenly everything is blooming at once—Yoshino cherries, Bradford pears, redbud, dogwood, wisteria. It's a riot of color out there.
Not to be outdone, the pine trees have started pollinating, and they can't even redeem themselves by showing off a new coat of color. To make matters worse, my house is getting a fresh coat of paint on the outside, and the painters are constantly having to open the windows. My timing couldn't have been worse.
So for the next week or so, I guess I'll have to put up with the stuffy nose, headache and itchy eyes. And no telling how many times I'll be doing a spit clean of my contact lenses. Nevertheless by next January, I'll be anxious for spring once again.

agreed.. but will take the pollen along with the SUNSHINE over snow anyday!!! :) happy Spring!!
Same here....awful! I washed the car in gail force winds yesterday and 30 minutes later it was yellow all over.
The flowering trees are beautiful here too. Each time I drive over to the Hill, I notice the changes. First it was the Bradford pears, now the Redbuds are blooming, soon the Dogwoods will join in. But when I got to my seat at Baum on Sunday, there was a layer of yellow stuff.

We're much slower springing here so it's not too bad yet. But in SC on Monday it was a sea of yellow dust. I told my daughter to break out the claritin. The trees are beautiful though!
Our cars are still yellow, but it was 86 degrees yesterday. Throughout the area, air conditioners are humming. Spring (both weeks) was a lot of fun, but summer is rearing its head. Enjoying the last days with the windows open (until Thanksgiving).
We are having the same problem here in the Dallas area. You are right...everything has bloomed at once causing allergy havoc. Our grandson in now taking Singular &it has really helped. Darling grands Kathy!!!! i really enjoy your blog. dianna W.
I have to agree with you about this being the worst year yet for pollen. The sky has actually been hazy yellow the last two days.

Beautiful pictures, Kathy! I love spring, I love the garden but I have all that yellow tree tassles coming down from the oak trees. They are making the pool green, yikes!...Christine
Yep. Me, too. Had the top down on the convertibile from here to LR. My black interior is now yellow. It's okay though. I'm so ready for spring that I will put up with a little yellow. My porch and porch furniture are yellow..that's what I get for putting the cushions out too early:) How's baby Lucy? I created a KKG twitter group for Arkansas. We'll see how that goes. Kathy-According to our weather man, this has been a record year for pollen here. Everything is covered in a coat of yellow dust--including me :) I guess we have to take the good with the bad !
